  • The SSC promotes artistic practices with sound in all their diversity. It facilitates the creation and presentation of autonomous artworks and specifically encourages productions that engage with concrete social or ecological issues, such as the accessibility and livability of urban spaces or the challenges of climate adaptation. Emphasis is placed on artistic research conducted in and through sound.

In conjunction with the SSC’s educational and advisory work, special attention is reserved for advocating for and creating sounding art in public urban spaces, in the belief that sonic interventions can contribute concretely, unexpectedly, and positively to public life. Past collaborations include Whispering Wind, a permanent sound installation by Edwin van der Heide, and Leiden (Un)Heard, a soundwalk in Leiden as part of Leiden City of Science, co-created by Sharon Stewart, Caeso, and Soundtrackcity.
