  • Sounding Urban Places is an interdisciplinary, arts-based research initiative that integrates community engagement in data collection with artistic co-creation, with a central emphasis on sound. The project seeks – both practically and theoretically – to enhance the quality of life for all living beings in residential areas and public urban spaces through the artistically informed (re)design of sonic environments. By fostering collaboration among a diverse team that includes sound artists, landscape architects, historians, ethnographers, and sound studies scholars, the project generates new insights and develops tools of direct relevance to applied fields such as urban design and regional development. Sounding Urban Places is structured to establish active partnerships with stakeholders, local communities, and businesses. It facilitates the implementation of innovative, participatory, and cross-disciplinary methods, and contributes concretely to the creation of sustainable, more attractive living environments through sonic interventions.
