This project consisted of a sound experience study focusing on the radar installation in Wier, conducted on commission for the Ministry of Defence. While sound level measurements had already indicated that noise standards were exceeded, this research explicitly combined acoustic measurements with an investigation into how the radar sound was experienced and interpreted by local residents.
Central to the study were the lived experiences of residents who had reported long-term noise disturbance, examined before, during, and after the placement of a new radar dome. By integrating listening exercises, long-term sound recordings, interviews, surveys, and soundscape analysis, the project aimed to develop a nuanced understanding of sound nuisance that extends beyond decibel levels and to formulate considerations and recommendations addressing acoustic, perceptual, social, and communicative dimensions of the issue.
